LateSunday/EarlyMonday – sore throat, red eyes, back of the neck hot on pillowtop. Can’t sleep, but nap all day long.
EarlyTuesday – less sore, still sweating it out. Apologize to pillow. Get up, pretend to be well. Shower, shave, dress, take shirts to cleaners, take car to oilers, take self to recorders…. I mean, record shop…… I mean, that purple shack one block east of Paradise Road on Sahara next to the Presidential Shave. You know, Record City, the place that looks like it’s been shuttered for years.
I think it actually has shutters… or am I romanticizing steel bars?
Is it purple? Not sure…
But it is open. Car out front, sandwichboard, screen door (steel door?) open, small house, normal doorknob, record store inside, smells like music stores should. Papery almost sandy.
Lots of vinyl, and not just your used record store Frampton, Mac, Hoople, Jim Neighbors selection, no.
This joint has some very good musics indeed!
Jesus Lizard, Funkadelic, Hendrix, Stereolab (really?! in vegas? Does anyone in Vegas purchase Stereolab records??).
In my fever, I bought much too much. I have to go back for the Stereolab at a later date. And the 33% off retail made for some 180gram Vinyl steals.
Anyway, I haven’t been excited by a record shop in such a long time. I miss my Reckless Records and although this joint pales in comparison, it has a charm to it in being so local and so quietly good. This store knows Kung Fu, but doesn’t brag about it, doesn’t need to, only needs to use it when it’s being mugged in a dark alley and doesn’t tell anyone at the bar about the incident when they show up a few minutes later.
